On my first day of my first job as a newspaper reporter, I looked at the copy editor and said, “I want your job.” He wasn’t too happy with that proclamation, and although it was a career goal, I didn’t really want to be an editor at that point. I was having too much fun writing for newspapers.
I found a writing voice in elementary school when I wrote my first short story. After the writing bug hit, I couldn’t stop. I went to writing camp in junior high (I even met a boyfriend there!), loaded up on English classes in high school, and took a journalism class, which gave me a writing and copy editing spot on the school newspaper. In college I earned a degree in journalism and English (heavy on the writing), putting me on the path to becoming a professional reporter and editor.
I wrote for several local newspapers before becoming a writer and editor of a newspaper for a national association, a writer and editor for a national magazine, followed by the editor of a magazine for a national association. Not only was I writing professionally, I continued writing just for myself, including keeping several blogs. Some days the writing poured out of me.
While I enjoyed being a newspaper and magazine editor, there was something missing. My professional editing goals and desires weren’t entirely filled. As an avid reader of romance novels, I found that my editing voice would best be used to guide authors in that genre to help make their novels as close to perfect as can be. I have been working with self-published authors since 2013.
With my extensive writing and editing experience, I am able to guide authors through their manuscripts as both an editor and a writer. Part of what I love about my job is watching a story unfold with two sets of eyes.
I would love to get started on your next novel. Check out my Services and Rates page to see what I can do for you.
